Bakwan Udang

Prepare the ingredients.
Add 150 grams of flour to a bowl.
Peel 2-4 carrots.
Grate the carrot.
Cut 100-150 grams of white cabbage into strips.
Chop 2 scallions finely.
Add pieces of 1 onion to a food processor.
Add 3 garlic cloves.
Add 2-3 teaspoons of salt.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of pepper powder.
Add 1 tablespoon of coriander seed powder.
Add 3 candlenuts.
Grind the spice mix finely.
Add the spice mix to the flour.
Add 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Add 1 egg.
Mix the ingredients.
Add the water.
... until the batter is thick and not too thin.
Add pieces of the scallion.
Add pieces of the carrot.
Add pieces of the white cabbage.
Mix in gently.
Heat the cooking oil in a cooking pot (for deep-frying).
Dip a ladle into the hot cooking oil.
Fill the hot ladle with the batter fully.
Add 1 prawn.
Dip the ladle into the hot cooking oil again.
Repeat step 25-29 until batter has been used.

Bakwan is an Indonesian fried meal consisting of vegetables and batter. The ingredients is vegetables; usually beansprouts, shredded cabbages and carrots, battered and deep fried in cooking oil. Bakwan udang uses a whole shrimp on top of batter.


200 grams prawn
150 grams flour
2 carrots
100 grams white cabbage
2 scallions
1 onion (or red onion)
3 cloves garlic
3 candlenuts (substitute: almonds)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1⁄2 teaspoon pepper powder
1 tablespoon coriander powder
1 egg
  cooking oil (for deep-frying)
